Membership and investment

Community Power Cornwall expects the majority of member investment to come from local communities but we also hope to attract investment from those living outside of the County wishing to support the development of community led renewable energy projects in Cornwall.

Although we do expect to be able to pay interest on shares, we do not seek investors primarily looking for a financial return. Our offer should be seen as an ethical investment opportunity attracting a blend of environmental, social and financial returns.

Membership is open to individuals and organisations that share the Society’s goal’s, are in agreement with the Society’s objectives and wish to share risks and benefits.

Members make decisions at general meetings on a “one member, one vote” basis irrespective of the number of shares held. Members elect the board who oversee the direction of the business and are accountable to the members. Only members are eligible to serve on the board.

We hope to enjoy a high level of member participation and engagement. At present you must be at least 16 years old for full membership.

There is a single class of shares with a nominal value of £1

Members of the Society must have a minimum of 50 shares and a maximum of 20,000 (Unless the member is another Industrial & Provident Society).
